An integral component of our current strategic plan involves developing and implementing programmatic activities in an effort to achieve our overarching goals.
Our goals are accomplished through the implementation of customized services for students and families from Pre-K through college and beyond.
PreK
Moving Beyond Barriers offers high quality early learning programs for children and families. Research indicates that high quality early childhood programs have positive short and long-term effects for children, families, and the community as a whole. In fact, high quality, integrated early learning programs address the academic, social-emotional, mental and physical health of children and families. Integrated programming and partnerships like Moving Beyond Barrier’s PreK programming help to close existing disparities and inequities related to race and socioeconomic status (Moore & Emig, 2014). Some of our PreK initiatives are outlined below.

Ready, Set, Grow!
This PreK program is designed to support at-risk preschool students so that they get a jumpstart on their education. Ready, Set, Grow will help preschool students and their families build social/emotional, motor skills, literacy, language, and math skills through fun, engaging content and programming.
Building Literacy
This early literacy program helps to build foundational skills so that children learn to love reading. The program builds alphabet knowledge and awareness, phonological skills, and phonemic skills through explicit, systematic, and multi-sensory approaches.
STEM for PreK
Engaging fun STEM activities help PreK children explore their world and ignite their curious nature. Through play-based activities, children build early science, technology, engineering and math skills.
Elementary (K-5)
In addition to early learning education, Moving Beyond Barriers offers services for children and families in Grades K-5. Research on child and youth development indicates that integrated, coordinated programming helps children, especially at-risk youth to succeed in school and in life in general. Through community partnership, children and families are able to have their academic and non-academic needs meet. Parent, family and community involvement in a child’s education has been proven to have a positive impact on students’ grades, test scores, school attendance, behavior, graduation rate and college acceptance (Wilder, 2014). Read to Succeed (Grades K-5)
A comprehensive reading solution designed to help at-risk students increase their reading skills with the ultimate goal to have them read at or above grade-level. The objective is that by the end of the year students will improve their comprehension skills, build vocabulary, and increase their fluency and reading rates in both oral and silent reading. MBB’s Read to Succeed program is based upon the latest research to effectively improve reading instruction and implement effective reading interventions. We help students move from learning to read to reading to learn.
Full STEAM Ahead
Our STEAM program for grades K-5 infuse fine arts, language arts and social studies into fun and engaging science, technology, engineering and math activities. The objective of Full STEAM Ahead is to help expose at-risk students to possible future STEM careers while building science, technology, engineering and math skills.
Mobile PreK and Elementary Centers
To be of greater assistance to schools and communities, Moving Beyond Barriers will offer mobile learning units to implement intervention and enrichment programs. The mobile units will be fully loaded with technology and tools to deliver high quality, engaging lessons without disrupting the school environment.
Workshops for PreK & Elementary Families and Educators
School to Home Partnerships are critical for students to achieve at high levels. MBB will offer workshops to help families and teachers collaborate and support children academically and socioemotionally. Workshops can be delivered in-person, live virtually or be made available virtually on demand.
Operation Backpack for Grades PreK-5
Operation Backpack is a school and hygiene supply drive to help provide students with the necessary tools to be successful in school. Check out our supply donation to Plainfield Public School’s Family Success Center.

Next Stop: High School
Being an 8th grader is awesome! You are the at the top of the middle school food chain! Going to high school can be a little daunting and scary for most 8th graders. This presentation helps 8th graders successfully navigate their freshman year by helping them make the most of the 8th grade year. Freshman year is the most important year of a student’s high school career. No matter what they plan to do after high school, choices they make academically and socially can set them up for future success. In this presentation, 9th graders will learn strategies to make the most of their freshman year and have fun too. Flying High Under the Radar
The sophomore year of high school can be the most difficult for students. Many students begin to fly under the radar at this grade. This presentation will help students understand how to successfully navigate the academic and social aspects of the sophomore year. Zooming In
This program for high school juniors will provide 11th graders with strategies to select the right college, branch of the military or career for them. It will help students “zoom in” or begin to focus on important things to set them up for future success. Your Big Fat Future
This program is specifically designed for seniors to inspire them to make good choices to set them up for future success in college, career and/or the military as well as life in general. This program can be delivered in-person, live virtually or be made available virtually on demand.
Getting Your Wallet Ready For College
This program is designed for juniors, seniors and their parents/guardians to help them better understand the financial obligations needed for college. Participants will learn about the FAFSA, scholarships and more. This program can be delivered in-person, live virtually or be made available virtually on demand.
